Be clear about the intended outcome
Tell us whether you want original-software restoration, an update, diagnosis after a change or a different calibration. These are different jobs and can need different evidence.
Returning software to a standard specification does not reverse mechanical modifications or repair existing faults. Include the installed hardware, emissions-system condition, current symptoms and previous tuning history so the scope reflects the whole vehicle.
Establish the current and original identities
Keep the original read, controller identification and records from the programming technician. Explain the source of any file called stock or original. Its filename alone does not establish suitability for the present controller.
If the vehicle has been updated since the original read, include that history. The correct supported restoration route depends on the controller and current software, rather than simply reusing an old file without checking what changed.
Discuss later programming with the installer
Tell the technician carrying out later software work that the vehicle has modified software or hardware. Ask what the proposed operation includes and how the existing calibration will be handled.
Do not assume that every update preserves a previous remap, that every access route remains available afterwards or that an earlier backup captures all information needed for replacement. These questions need to be checked against the actual operation.
Request a vehicle-specific restoration assessment
Send registration, postcode, software history, files and any scan taken before or after the change. Tell us if the vehicle runs normally or whether the request follows failed programming.
The team confirms the intended software outcome, supported access and verification within the agreed quote. A restoration does not prove the entire vehicle is standard or guarantee removal of any historical programming record. Further mechanical and diagnostic work remains separate where required.
