Identify the actual transmission
Send the registration, gearbox type and diagnostic identification if available. The DSG family and number of gears are useful starting points, but the actual controller and software decide current programming support. State whether the mechatronic or gearbox has been replaced.
TCU calibration and replacement-data cloning are different jobs. If the problem appeared after a used unit was installed, describe that history before requesting a performance map. The first enquiry may need compatibility and diagnosis rather than tuning.
Describe the behaviour you want
Discuss everyday shift behaviour, response and the relationship with your engine calibration. Include the current engine tuner, output estimate and hardware changes. Supported features are confirmed for the exact application rather than promised across every DSG.
A comfortable road brief does not have to chase the most aggressive shift feel. Describe where the existing behaviour does not suit you: gear holding, frequent changes or response in the mode you normally drive. Distinguish preference from a new mechanical symptom.
Review the gearbox condition
Service history, fluid work, fault codes and current symptoms matter. Slip, judder, pressure faults or selection problems require an appropriate investigation. Calibration cannot restore worn clutches or cure a hydraulic fault.
Where engine output has changed, we consider ECU and TCU strategy together. Raising a torque limit is not proof that the transmission can handle an arbitrary figure. Tell us about clutch or gearbox hardware changes and previous adaptations.
Agree the supported scope
The quotation identifies the TCU work and any related engine or diagnostic job. Ask which changes are supported and how the result will be checked. A family-level tuning claim should not replace exact-controller support confirmation.
Keep a record of the engine and gearbox software installed. Future dealer updates or replacements may change the software relationship. Report unexpected behaviour with the conditions and codes rather than repeatedly programming or resetting the gearbox.
