Start with the car you have
Stage 1 is the starting point for a suitable vehicle using its standard engine hardware. The brief might be easier overtaking, a more progressive response or a stronger mid-range. Give us the exact engine, gearbox and factory output rather than only the model badge.
Two versions of the same car can have different turbos, controllers or transmission limits. The quotation considers your specification and condition. A headline figure from another vehicle is useful context, but it does not establish what yours should produce.
Check health before requesting more load
Tell us about warning lights, oil or coolant use, boost leaks, misfires, smoke and any clutch or gearbox symptoms. A diagnostic scan and the relevant checks help establish whether calibration is the appropriate next job. Existing problems should be investigated first.
Include mileage and recent servicing. A vehicle that feels slow may have a mechanical or control-system fault rather than simply a conservative factory calibration. Describe the symptom before deciding that a remap is the cure.
Set a complete calibration brief
For petrol work, name the fuel grade you will actually use. For diesel work, describe your normal load, routes and preferred torque delivery. Include the current software history and any hardware changes, even if the seller called the car standard.
Discuss manual-clutch condition or the automatic transmission alongside engine output. Supported gearbox calibration can be quoted with the engine work when appropriate. An engine Stage 1 and a gearbox Stage 1 describe separate products; their numbers are not a universal matching rule.
Agree access, checks and handover
The ECU identification determines whether the work uses a supported OBD, bench or specialist-access route. The team checks that route before promising a mobile appointment. Controller protection and prior programming can change the required scope.
Your quote explains the calibration, agreed checks, any required access work and arrangements. Ask how results will be verified for your job. An estimated output and a measured test result should be kept distinct. Keep the service record and report any unexpected warning or change after handover.
