Explain where the vehicle needs to improve
Do you want easier overtaking, a more progressive response under load or fewer unnecessary changes on a familiar route? Those descriptions give a calibration enquiry a purpose. A maximum peak number does not say where in the operating range the car will feel different.
Mention whether the behaviour is longstanding or has recently deteriorated. A new loss of pulling power can involve a fault. Before choosing a tuning target, share the symptoms and diagnostic evidence.
Keep the power and torque descriptions complete
Power and torque figures are useful when the engine speed, measurement method and operating conditions are understood. Two charts with similar peaks can show different delivery through the range. Ask to discuss the usable result, not only the largest number.
An advertised estimate should be labelled as an estimate. A measured result needs a test method and vehicle specification. Do not compare an engine estimate with a wheel measurement as though they were identical quantities.
Consider load and transmission together
A towing vehicle, a loaded van and an unloaded commuter have different practical briefs. Include the gearbox and maintenance history. Existing clutch slip or transmission symptoms need investigation before increased output is requested.
A gearbox-calibration enquiry can be added where the exact application is supported. Software torque handling does not prove mechanical capacity. The target still has to fit the engine, drivetrain, hardware and condition.
Turn the goal into a useful enquiry
Send registration, engine, current software, transmission, service condition and usual load. State whether you value daily response, towing behaviour or another priority. Include scans and existing measured results where available.
The team confirms access and an appropriate scope before booking. No fixed diesel percentage or economy saving is used as a substitute for checking the actual vehicle.
Send the information that helps.
- Engine, gearbox and current calibration
- Driving conditions where improvement is wanted
- Payload or trailer use
- Service history and fault evidence
- Existing estimates or test results
Questions about this enquiry
Is the highest Nm figure always the best brief?
No. Discuss where and how torque is delivered, vehicle use and drivetrain condition.
Does tuning fix diesel limp mode?
A limp-mode condition requires diagnosis. Send the codes and circumstances first.
