Identify the generation and factory specification

The EA888 description spans different engine generations and applications. Registration, year, engine code and factory output help establish the actual starting point. A badge or a quoted result from a similar-looking car is not a complete specification.

Tell us whether the vehicle uses standard hardware, supporting upgrades or a larger turbo. Include exact parts and the current tune. If the car is newly purchased and its software history is unclear, state that before requesting a new stage.

Give the real fuel and hardware brief

Name the petrol grade you will regularly use. List intake, cooling, turbo, fuelling and exhaust changes where present. State which work has been installed and checked. A Stage 2 label is not an interchangeable hardware specification across all generations.

Share warnings, misfire, boost concerns and installer findings. A calibration should follow a sound mechanical setup. The appropriate first step may be diagnosis or correcting an installation issue.

Identify the DSG separately

Send the actual transmission and diagnostic identification if available. Include servicing and any previous TCU software. The engine and transmission need a coherent torque and response brief, but tuning support and features are checked separately for each controller.

Explain shift behaviour you want to discuss and any slip, judder or warning. A DSG map cannot repair a hydraulic or clutch fault. Replacement mechatronic cloning is also a different service from performance calibration.

Ask for a combined scope

Prepare one enquiry with registration, fuel, hardware, ECU/TCU history, condition and postcode. Ask which access route and checks are required for both jobs. A combined quote helps avoid assuming the engine estimate alone describes the whole appointment.

Keep estimates and measured results distinct. Ask how a proposed target will be verified for your actual setup, rather than treating a chart from a different generation as evidence for yours.

Questions about this enquiry

Does every EA888 use the same ECU or DSG?

No. Identify the actual engine generation and transmission. Controller and software support are checked individually.

Does a DSG remap include repairing judder?

No. A symptom requires diagnosis; tuning and mechanical repair have separate scopes.
