In This Guide
Describe the water event and current condition
Tell us when water ingress was discovered, whether the controller or connectors were affected, and what the vehicle did afterwards. Photograph the label and visible condition without obscuring corrosion or damage.
A repair supplier’s handling guidance emphasises contacting the specialist before cleaning or disturbing a water-damaged ECU. For a Northern Calibration enquiry, explain its present condition and ask for instructions before opening, cleaning or dispatching it.
Include the vehicle-side findings
Send the scan report and the garage’s findings about supplies, grounds, connectors and the route of the water leak. Include work already completed and whether the symptoms changed afterwards.
The vehicle fault and the controller assessment need to be considered together. A repaired or replacement unit should not be treated as the entire repair plan while a leak or damaged wiring remains unresolved. Tell us who is handling that part of the job.
Keep repair and replacement options open
Assessment establishes whether repair of the original is practical and what original data can be accessed. If a replacement route is proposed, donor compatibility and the required transfer need checking before a unit is bought.
Neither a clean-looking housing nor lost normal communication answers every question about the electronics or data. Keep the original ECU and explain any previous repair or programming attempts. The agreed work should reflect the actual findings.
Agree handling and return arrangements
For postal enquiries, provide the full return postcode and the installer’s details. Wait for acceptance and handling instructions matched to the unit. Photograph its condition and label before packaging.
Northern Calibration enquiries reach Precision Remaps UK in Burton upon Trent. Owners and garages across northern England and Scotland can discuss repair assessment, recovery or a donor route before the controller travels.
