Build a before-and-after history
Explain how the vehicle behaved before the software work, what was changed and what appeared afterwards. Include dates, modifications, fuel used, previous faults and any repair carried out around the same time.
A fault appearing after programming deserves investigation, but timing alone does not establish that the calibration caused it. Preserve the original files and the complete scan. Ask the person who programmed the vehicle for identification and job records.
Confirm the current software identity
We need to understand which controller and software are present, what file was written and whether another update has since taken place. Describe the origin of each backup rather than relying on names such as “stock” or “stage one”.
An original-software restoration request and a revised performance calibration have different goals. Neither should be attempted with a guessed file from another application. Exact identity and a supported write route are checked first.
Include the health of the vehicle
Existing supply, sensor, boost, fuelling or mechanical issues can become more noticeable under different load. The technician should select the relevant tests from the symptoms and diagnostic findings.
If the gearbox behaviour has also changed, include its scan and calibration history. Engine and transmission strategies interact, but a TCU map is not a substitute for repairing a faulty transmission. We discuss the appropriate scope before software changes.
Agree a diagnostic or restoration plan
Send the registration, postcode, symptoms and file history. Tell us whether the vehicle runs safely, is immobilised or is already at a workshop. Do not continue road use when the vehicle condition makes it unsafe.
Northern Calibration routes the enquiry to Precision Remaps UK for assessment. A quote can distinguish diagnosis, supported original-software restoration and any later calibration work, with verification and installation requirements made clear.
The useful details.
- What changed and when the fault first appeared
- Original and written files with their sources
- Full engine and transmission scan
- Vehicle hardware, mileage and previous faults
- Current controller identification and postcode
