Start with the complete petrol ECU identity
Send the registration, engine, gearbox and entire original label. ME7 and ME9 cover different controller variants and applications. A cropped family name or the model badge alone does not identify a supported calibration or replacement route.
If a replacement is being considered, photograph its complete label too and tell us whether it has already been purchased or fitted. Include diagnostic hardware and software identification where available. Describe what the original did before removal, including whether the vehicle started and why the ECU was suspected.
Separate an identity-transfer job from a tuning request
For cloning, the questions are which original information is available and whether the proposed donor can accept the supported transfer. For calibration, the questions concern the exact engine, controller access, fuel, installed hardware and intended response. They are different scopes even when discussed for the same ECU.
A vehicle that will not start after a used controller was fitted needs its replacement and diagnostic history first. Do not treat a remap as a way to complete an unidentified donor installation. Keep both controllers and any earlier files available until the route has been agreed.
Preserve previous software and modification records
Keep the original read, tuning files and programming logs, identifying which tool and operation produced each item. State whether the ECU has been opened, repaired, remapped or written after the failure. The technician checks the data required for the actual job rather than assuming every saved tuning file is a complete backup.
For a petrol tuning enquiry, list the fuel and exact hardware, including any engine changes. If selectable modes or other features are requested, explain their intended use and ask about application-specific support. A feature shown on another ME7 or ME9 vehicle is not a universal coverage promise.
Agree the practical appointment and handover
Include the full postcode, whether the vehicle drives and who will remove or refit the controller. Accepted postal electronic work and a vehicle calibration appointment provide different opportunities for checking the complete car. Discuss the required route before dispatch.
Precision Remaps UK confirms the supported operation, scope, price and availability. The brief identifies remaining installation, authorised adaptation or vehicle-side checks. If the original fault involved a loom, supply or mechanical problem, that part of the repair remains relevant after the controller work.
The useful details.
- Registration, exact engine and transmission
- Full original and donor identities
- Original condition and diagnostic findings
- Files with their tool and read operation
- Fuel, hardware, postcode and intended result
