Photograph the entire PCR2.1 identity

Include the registration, vehicle specification and a clear original ECU label. Capture every part number and revision rather than just the PCR2.1 family marking. If a donor is available, send its full label in the same enquiry and identify which unit came from the vehicle.

Explain whether this is an internal-failure assessment, a used-ECU non-start, a tuning enquiry or interrupted programming. Include the current symptoms and a diagnostic scan. These requests share a controller family, but require different data and different checks.

Keep software history separate from replacement identity

State any previous remap, workshop update, replacement or unsuccessful flash. Keep the files and logs in their original form, including any information from the earlier programmer. A stock software file and the original unit’s vehicle-specific information serve different purposes in the job brief.

AutoTuner’s FRF guidance describes compatible original-software selection and warns that a stock restoration removes previous software modifications. If restoration is being considered, the existing map, access state and intended final specification need discussing before anything is written.

A non-start needs evidence from the vehicle

If a replacement has already been fitted, say whether the engine cranks, briefly runs or does not respond. Send the engine and related-system faults, identification and work completed. A fault description is useful; clearing codes repeatedly can remove information needed for the investigation.

We assess the original data, exact donor and supported route together. Do not assume that loading a file described as “stock” makes a used ECU correct for the vehicle. Installation, authorised adaptation and unresolved electrical faults may still be relevant.

Prepare a complete enquiry for the quote

Send both labels, the original-unit condition, current scan and full postcode. Tell us where the car is, which units can be supplied and who will complete the installation checks. A removed controller cannot show us the whole vehicle’s wiring or mechanical condition.

Postal acceptance, supported electronic work and remaining responsibilities are confirmed before dispatch. If the data needed for the proposed route cannot be recovered, we explain the assessment outcome and discuss practical next steps rather than treating every PCR2.1 as a direct clone.
