Ask about the operation, not only the connection
A listed connection method describes supported access for particular work. It should not be read as a promise that every memory area or replacement operation is available. Specify tuning, recovery or cloning when asking about the controller.
Send the original and donor identification together with their condition and any available files. A quote needs the exact job, not simply confirmation that a tool recognises the ECU family.
The cloning status can change the route
Magicmotorsport’s legend distinguishes direct 1-to-1 transfer, No Clone and Not tested. A Not tested entry does not guarantee a working clone. Entries for 1-to-Staff or 1-to-Service require the corresponding file-processing route.
The legend also identifies cases requiring physical handling of an external EEPROM. Those are specialist operations, with different requirements from an ordinary calibration write. The selected entry and method need checking for the identified units.
Keep the required original information available
Tell us whether the original communicates and which backups are available. Identify how each file was obtained and retain the original hardware. A calibration file should not be assumed to answer every data requirement for replacement.
If another supplier has advised that cloning is unsupported, include that advice and the units it concerned. The team can then discuss the scope clearly rather than working from a conflicting general description.
Confirm current support before buying a donor
Coverage and available methods are checked for the requested job at enquiry stage. Ask which units and files are needed, whether donor purchase should wait, and what the installer would still need to complete.
