Write down the software timeline
Start with the last point at which the car operated normally. List remaps, workshop updates, ECU changes and failed writes in date order. Say which controller was installed at each stage and whether the symptom appeared before or after the change.
For a PCR2.1 enquiry, include diagnostic identification and both labels where a donor is involved. A family name and a downloaded file name provide less information than the actual unit numbers and the sequence of events. Keep the original controller and all available files.
Separate stock restoration from replacement
AutoTuner’s FRF guidance describes selecting compatible original software, including restoration to a stock state. It also states that restoring original software removes previous modifications such as a tune or software access changes. That makes the current and intended software state relevant to the quote.
This software operation should not be treated as a statement that a used ECU has the correct vehicle-specific identity or that the whole replacement is complete. Ask which electronic work is required for the proposed donor, which original data is needed and what remains to be done after refitting.
Describe a non-start with diagnostic evidence
Tell us whether the vehicle cranks, starts briefly or stays running with warnings. Include a complete scan rather than one cropped fault. Identify which unit produced the scan and what coding or adaptation has already been attempted by the installer.
Vehicle-side power, grounds, wiring and related-system findings still matter. A controller replacement can coincide with another fault. Stop treating every new warning as proof that another software write is needed; preserve the evidence and ask for the sensible diagnostic sequence.
Get one clear accepted scope
Send registration, full postcode, the timeline, both labels and original condition to Precision Remaps UK. Explain whether the vehicle is at a garage and whether you are asking for recovery of the original, assessment of a donor route or restoration of a running vehicle’s software.
The accepted quote should name the parts required, electronic work, remaining vehicle checks and any practical dispatch conditions. When recovery or direct transfer is uncertain, the assessment outcome determines the next step. A general PCR2.1 page cannot replace that application-specific decision.

Questions about this enquiry
Can original-software restoration remove my previous tune?
Yes. Discuss the current software and intended final state before agreeing a stock-restoration operation.
Does a stock file include everything needed for a donor replacement?
Do not assume it does. The original data and supported replacement route are checked separately.
