Identify the original and the candidate separately

Send clear photographs of the complete original label and the proposed donor label. Add the registration, engine and model year, plus any diagnostic controller identification already available.

Keep the seller’s description alongside the photographs. If the part came from another vehicle, share the information supplied about that application. Do not substitute a cropped part number for the complete label; the enquiry needs enough detail to identify both units.

Explain what happened to the original

Describe the current symptoms and how they began. Include the diagnostic report, previous repairs and any programming attempt. Say whether the original ECU is available, fitted, removed or already with another specialist.

For a recovery enquiry, retain all files and logs. Name the files clearly and tell us which unit each came from. The team needs to understand the available original data before proposing a transfer or another replacement route.

Ask what the proposed replacement includes

A useful enquiry asks whether this particular pair can be accepted, what data route is proposed, and what the installer will need to complete afterwards. Ask which units and supporting information should be sent.

Include any deadline and who will refit the ECU. If the replacement is being considered rather than already purchased, say so. That lets the suitability discussion happen before your parts order.

Agree the quote and dispatch details

Once a route has been assessed, confirm the scope, charges, return address and expected arrangements. Keep the original until the replacement work and final checks are complete. Mark accepted postal units OLD / ORIGINAL and NEW / REPLACEMENT.

Owners and garages from the Midlands to northern Scotland can send the labels and vehicle details through Northern Calibration. Enquiries go to Precision Remaps UK for a job-specific answer before purchase, booking or dispatch.
