A clone is a scope of work, not one universal product
Two ECUs with similar cases can need different operations. One original may communicate normally and provide the required information through a supported route. Another may need investigation after damage or interrupted programming before any data transfer can be considered.
The quote needs to identify the requested outcome: assessment, repair, recovery, replacement-data transfer or calibration. Comparing a simple tuning price with a cloning quote can miss the original-data and donor work that makes the jobs different.
Original condition and donor compatibility
Tell us whether the original still communicates, has suffered water or electrical damage, or has already been programmed or opened. Send both unit labels. A donor bought before compatibility is checked may not be suitable for the operation you need.
Recovery of missing or damaged original information can add a separate assessment stage. If the original is unavailable, that is a material part of the enquiry. Do not assume the same transfer route or price as a job with two serviceable compatible units.
Access, verification and work on the vehicle
The supported access method affects the time and preparation required. Protected-controller access, a full-data operation and a calibration-only write can have different scopes. Any additional procedure should be identified before the work is accepted.
Ask what the quoted verification covers and whether refitting, coding or adaptation remains with your installer. A bench check and a complete vehicle commissioning are different parts of the repair. Include travel or shipping arrangements when comparing the overall cost.
How to request an accurate price
Send registration, postcode, both labels, the fault history and diagnostic findings. State which parts you already own and who will fit the replacement. Clear evidence often resolves questions that a registration-only request cannot.
Precision Remaps UK confirms the proposed work, applicable VAT and any delivery or travel costs. If assessment reveals a different scope, further work is discussed before proceeding. Ask for the expected turnaround and the terms for your accepted job alongside the price.
