Family names cover different jobs

A SID or DCM family description helps identify the type of enquiry, but it does not confirm a complete programming or donor specification. Send the full label, vehicle registration, engine and any diagnostic hardware and software identification.

For replacement, include both units and the fault history. A shared connector or an online listing for the same model does not establish that the replacement can accept the information needed by your vehicle.

State the requested operation

Tell us whether the aim is an engine remap, recovery after programming, an assessment of suspected internal failure or transfer of original data into a replacement. The support check must match that operation.

A tuning protocol should not be treated as evidence of full-memory cloning support. This is particularly relevant when someone has recommended a donor because the vehicle appears in a calibration list. We assess the original, candidate replacement and available information together.

Preserve the original unit and files

Keep the failed controller, even if the vehicle no longer communicates with it. State whether it has been opened, repaired, programmed or affected by water. Original-data recovery depends on the real condition, rather than the label alone.

If a programming attempt failed, keep the original read, attempted write and logs separately. If the failure is electrical, include the supply, ground and wiring findings. These two situations need different assessment evidence.

Choose postal or vehicle-side assessment

Approved removed-unit work can be posted from across the UK, including commercial vehicles already with a local garage. Confirm the parts and scope before dispatch so the vehicle is not dismantled unnecessarily.

If diagnosis is incomplete or the required operation needs the vehicle present, discuss a workshop or suitable mobile route by postcode. The accepted quote makes access, transfer or recovery work and any refitting requirements clear.
