Identify the variant and the operation
Send the complete ECU identity and vehicle specification. Simos is a broad family description, so include the variant, hardware and software identification where available. Tell us whether the car needs calibration, original-software recovery, repair assessment or a compatible replacement.
For a tuned petrol car, include the fuel grade, installed hardware and current gearbox software. For a donor job, include both ECU labels and the original’s condition. A tuning support listing answers a calibration question; it does not settle a replacement-data transfer.
Treat a tuning read and replacement backup differently
Keep the earlier programmer’s files and records. State whether the file was a physical read, a server-supplied virtual read or another format. The information needed for replacement is assessed independently of the calibration file used for a remap.
AutoTuner’s Simos 18.x personal-flasher announcement describes an OBD virtual-read calibration workflow. That example illustrates why the tool operation matters: a calibration workflow should not be presented as proof that a complete original-identity backup exists. Current support is checked for the actual requested work.
Share the petrol-engine and gearbox brief
For calibration, identify the actual engine and factory output, fuel, cooling and boost-related hardware. Include warning lights, service concerns and the response you want. A badge shared by several engines is not enough to set a useful tuning target.
For a controller replacement after a running fault, send the scan and the diagnosis that points to the ECU. A map cannot repair an external electrical fault or mechanical problem. Agree any investigation before a tuning or replacement quote is treated as a complete repair plan.
Confirm the installation and aftercare scope
Tell us the postcode, whether the vehicle can drive and whether the ECU is already removed. Access requirements can affect whether the proposed work is on-vehicle, workshop or approved postal support. Do not remove a functioning unit just to obtain a quote.
An accepted replacement job includes a clear electronic scope and any remaining commissioning checks. A tuning job includes the agreed fuel and hardware brief and appropriate handover. Keep those requirements with the vehicle, especially before later workshop updates or hardware changes.
