Record the exact engine and starting output

BMW diesel badges cover different engines, turbo arrangements and controller generations. Send registration, year, engine identification and factory output if known. Include whether the vehicle already has a map or hardware changes.

An estimate for another 30d or 35d version is not automatically yours. Controller access and the calibration scope are checked from the actual specification. Preserve files and test records if previous work has been carried out.

Explain where you want useful torque

Describe overtaking, motorway response, towing or another priority. The operating range and delivery matter alongside peak bhp and Nm. A progressive road brief can be more useful than a request for the highest advertised figure.

If the engine has recently lost performance, state the change and its circumstances. Boost, airflow, fuelling or aftertreatment concerns need the appropriate diagnosis before performance calibration is chosen.

Include the automatic transmission

Share the exact gearbox, servicing, current TCU software and shift history. Supported engine and ZF work can be considered together. Gearbox stage labels describe their own product choices, rather than a universal match to engine stages.

A software change does not establish mechanical health. Slip, vibration, pressure faults or delayed selection need investigation. Include the relevant scan and conditions instead of expecting a tune to hide them.

Plan verification and appointment logistics

The team confirms the ECU/TCU route, quote and agreed checks before booking. Software updates and previous maps may change the starting scope. Include full postcode and preferred location.

Keep proposed gains distinct from measured results and compare the same quantities. If you have a dyno sheet, send the complete chart and specification. A headline number without that context is a weak basis for the next calibration.
