Keep the codes and warning messages
A diesel emissions warning can involve several connected systems. Record the dashboard message, stored fault codes, mileage and the conditions in which the warning appears. Include whether there is a countdown, limp mode or a starting restriction.
The sequence matters. A warning that began after a repair, wiring change or software update may need a different investigation from a recurring fault on an otherwise unchanged vehicle. Share the full history rather than just the last component replaced.
Avoid diagnosing from a component name alone
A code that mentions a sensor, valve or dosing system is not enough on its own to establish the root cause. Relevant live data and application-specific tests can help distinguish component, wiring, operating-condition and control issues.
Tell us what has already been measured or tested, along with any parts fitted. This can prevent the enquiry from becoming another unsupported guess at the next replacement. A complete report is more useful than a photograph of a single code.
Choose a road-appropriate repair route
The work should be scoped to restore the vehicle’s required operation with its emissions and safety obligations in mind. Mechanical repair, wiring work, supported programming or further diagnosis may be needed.
Disclose existing modifications and software changes. They affect how diagnostic information is interpreted. A proposed software change should not be treated as a substitute for identifying a damaged component or unresolved vehicle fault.
Plan workshop or mobile investigation
Some faults can be assessed on a suitable mobile appointment. Others require more time, facilities or vehicle-side tests at the workshop. The registration, postcode and symptoms help establish the practical starting point.
Northern Calibration enquiries go directly to Precision Remaps UK. Send the report and dashboard messages to admin@precisionremapsuk.com, or use WhatsApp to attach photographs. We will discuss the diagnostic scope and quote before work is agreed.
