Identify the transmission and its controller

Transmission control units and mechatronic assemblies differ between applications. Before a transfer is planned, identify the vehicle, gearbox type, original controller and proposed replacement.

The original and donor labels are useful, along with the installer’s diagnostic report. Tell us whether you are sending separate electronics or a complete assembly. The parts required and packing instructions should be agreed before anything is dispatched.

What a supported TCU transfer can do

A supported transfer can move relevant original software, identity and configuration to a compatible replacement controller. Its purpose is to help the replacement work with the vehicle’s required electronic information.

The exact data involved depends on the gearbox controller and available method. A broad description such as DSG or ZF does not by itself confirm clone support. Both the original and replacement need to be identified.

Mechanical faults remain a separate part of the job

Data transfer does not restore worn clutches, repair a hydraulic fault or make an incompatible gearbox mechanically correct. The installer still needs to assess the cause of the original transmission problem.

If the original complaint involved slipping, judder, loss of pressure or mechanical damage, include those findings. They help keep the electronic work aligned with the actual repair rather than presenting programming as a cure for the whole transmission.

Plan for basic settings and final verification

After refitting, the transmission may need coding, basic settings, adaptation, correct fluid checks or further diagnostics. The required procedure depends on the vehicle and replacement work.

For a postal job, label the units OLD / ORIGINAL and NEW / REPLACEMENT. Send the details to Precision Remaps UK through Northern Calibration before dispatch. We agree the electronic scope and explain any installer responsibilities so the vehicle-side job can be planned.
