Record the sequence before another attempt
Describe what the vehicle did before programming, which operation was attempted and when communication changed. Include the tool, protocol, error message and whether the write completed or stopped. A timed sequence is more useful than simply saying the ECU is bricked.
Retain photographs of the error screen and the diagnostic report. Tell us whether the vehicle cranks, starts, communicates with other modules or has a dashboard warning. Include any security equipment or electrical work that was relevant to the programming session.
Keep the original files and tool logs
Save the original read, the file that was written and any logs from the session. Keep the filenames and identify their source. If another tuner carried out the work, ask for the available records before starting a recovery enquiry.
Do not assume a calibration read contains every memory area needed for a replacement job. Explain which files are available and how they were obtained. The specialist can then assess their usefulness for the requested operation.
A failed write does not define the recovery method
The exact controller, hardware condition and accessible data determine the next step. An ECU may need a different supported access route from the one used for tuning. Recovery feasibility is assessed individually; a family name alone cannot confirm the result.
Keep the original controller. If a donor is being considered, send both labels before purchase or dispatch. The quote should distinguish recovery of the original from a replacement-data job and explain what remains for the installer.
Make the enquiry practical
Send the registration, postcode, controller identification, files and failure history to Precision Remaps UK through Northern Calibration. Tell us where the vehicle is and whether another garage will remove or refit the ECU.
For Midlands workshop or northern UK postal enquiries, the route and acceptance are agreed before an appointment or parcel is arranged. Ask for the scope, price, required records and expected arrangements before proceeding.
