Explain why the controller is being changed

Start with the symptoms and diagnosis, including whether the original ECU communicates. State if the failure followed water ingress, an electrical event, a previous repair or programming. A replacement enquiry needs that history as well as a registration.

If a used unit is already fitted, say what changed. Include the scan taken after replacement and preserve the original. A controller that appears in diagnostics but will not allow normal operation can involve a different problem from the original hardware failure.

Use the complete labels and identification

Send readable photographs of the entire original and replacement labels. Include every manufacturer number and any available diagnostic hardware and software identification. Engine, transmission and vehicle specification help establish the application.

A similar case or a seller’s model list is not a complete donor assessment. Check a candidate before committing to purchase. The comparison has to consider the supported operation and available original information, not simply whether the plugs fit.

Be precise about access and data transfer

Selected Mercedes MD1CP001 and MG1CP002 specialist-access enquiries are handled through the applicable Flex and Korhex workflows. That equipment capability must still be checked for the exact variant, software and operation.

Access for calibration does not automatically establish a direct replacement-data route. Say whether you need cloning, recovery, original-software restoration or tuning. The quote can then address the required work rather than relying on a broad promise about a protected family.

Keep original files and prior attempts

If a programming attempt is part of the history, preserve original reads, supplied files, attempted writes and logs separately. Explain which came from the vehicle and which were supplied by another technician.

An unreadable or damaged original needs an assessment of recoverable information. A missing original needs a different replacement enquiry. Neither should be presented as a routine clone without those conditions being stated.

Agree the complete repair route

Ask which units are required for accepted postal work and which installation or configuration checks remain. The installer needs to correct underlying vehicle faults and verify operation after refitting.

Include a direct garage contact if the car or van is already being repaired locally. Northern Calibration routes the enquiry to Precision Remaps UK, where support, price and arrangements are confirmed before parts are sent or an appointment is booked.
