Keep the power unit visible

A comparison needs the same unit on both sides. Bhp, metric PS and kW are different ways of expressing power. Copying a number from one unit into a field labelled with another creates a misleading difference.

The Northern Calibration calculator compares the figures you enter in one selected unit. It does not convert or identify a vehicle. Use the original source units or obtain a consistent pair before calculating.

Compare the same measurement basis

Engine or flywheel output and power measured at the wheels describe different points in the drivetrain. A factory engine rating and a wheel test should not be treated as a direct before-and-after pair. Ask for the basis and method shown on the result.

A rolling-road report can include calculated quantities as well as measured ones. Read the labels and test information. The chart, vehicle condition and setup give more context than a cropped peak number.

Separate an estimate from a test

An advertised target or technician estimate is a planning expectation. A measured output refers to an actual test with its conditions. A mathematical percentage between two numbers does not change their evidence status.

The calculator cannot confirm ECU support, safety or achievable output. It simply shows the difference and percentage for user-entered figures. Add the source and measurement basis when asking the team to assess them.

Use a complete result in the enquiry

Send the registration, exact engine, fuel, hardware and gearbox together with the full chart or estimate. State whether the figure is factory data, measured output or a proposed target. Include previous software and test conditions where known.

The team can then discuss a vehicle-specific expectation and appropriate verification. Avoid assuming that another car’s peak figure proves the result available from yours.

Questions about this enquiry

Does the calculator predict my remap output?

No. It compares numbers you provide. Vehicle identification and a technician assessment are separate.

Can I compare factory bhp directly with wheel bhp?

Keep the measurement basis consistent. Engine-rated and wheel-measured figures are not a direct like-for-like pair.
