The goal should describe how the vehicle is used

Tell us whether the priority is daily response, overtaking, frequent towing, commercial load or calibration for installed hardware. Include the typical journey, fuel used and transmission. This is more useful than requesting a universal percentage increase.

Economy depends on vehicle condition, route, load and driving behaviour. An ECO brief should not be presented as a guaranteed reduction in consumption. A performance calibration can also change how the driver uses the vehicle, so expected benefits need discussing in context.

Health and servicing set the starting point

Provide mileage, service history, warning lights and any boost, fuelling, cooling or gearbox concerns. A vehicle used under sustained load needs an honest account of its condition before additional output is considered.

Calibration does not repair an engine or transmission fault. If there is slip, judder, poor running or limp mode, ask for investigation first. Share the scan rather than treating a remap as a remedy for an unresolved warning.

Include towing and load details

Describe the trailer or caravan use and normal load without assuming a torque target from another model. The engine and gearbox application, condition and intended driving behaviour matter together.

The calibration discussion does not change the vehicle’s permitted towing or load specification. Ask the technician to scope suitable behaviour for the actual use. The relevant mechanical, braking, cooling and service condition remains part of operating the vehicle correctly.

Consider the transmission alongside the engine

Include the exact gearbox, its servicing and existing TCU software. Some supported applications can be considered for combined engine and gearbox work; coverage and features must be checked for both controllers.

A gearbox map is not automatically required for every engine remap, and a higher torque limit is not universally suitable. Explain the shift behaviour you want to change so the quote can identify meaningful supported work.

Request a specific quote and verification plan

Send registration, postcode, modifications, existing software, fuel and the driving goal. The exact ECU determines the access route, and some applications require additional protected-controller work.

Ask what identification, programming and checks are included and how expectations will be assessed. Mobile suitability and appointments are confirmed by scope and postcode. A generic power figure from a tool list should not be described as a measured result from your vehicle.

Questions about this enquiry

Is an economy saving guaranteed?

No. Condition, route, load and driving behaviour affect consumption.

Does towing calibration increase the legal towing limit?

No. The vehicle’s permitted towing and load specifications remain applicable; the enquiry concerns suitable calibration behaviour.
