Identify the actual transmission application
Send the gearbox type, labels on the original and replacement electronics, registration and scan. A vehicle marque or the broad 8HP / 9HP designation does not confirm the controller, software or donor route.
Tell us whether a complete replacement transmission is being fitted or only the mechatronic or electronic unit. Include the original fault and the specialist’s mechanical and hydraulic findings so the programming scope can be considered alongside the physical repair.
Separate published tool support from your job
Magicmotorsport documents a bench route for selected Jaguar and Land Rover ZF 9HP48 controllers, including internal flash and EEPROM access for the stated protocol. Support for that application does not establish support for every ZF transmission.
The exact units, accessible data and donor suitability still need checking. A TCU that supports calibration changes may need a different procedure for replacement data. We confirm the requested operation before any parts are sent.
Decide whether you need transfer or calibration
Replacement-data work aims to preserve the supported information needed for a compatible controller. Gearbox tuning changes applicable calibration behaviour on a suitable transmission. Neither repairs a mechanical or hydraulic failure.
For combined engine and gearbox tuning, share the current engine software, modifications, gearbox health and driving goal. For a replacement job, start with both labels, diagnostic identification and which original files remain available.
Plan commissioning with the installer
The vehicle-side handover can involve transmission-specific configuration, adaptation and final checks. Your installer should understand what the electronic service includes and what remains before fitting the replacement.
Accepted removed-unit jobs can be arranged by post across the UK. Do not send a fluid-containing assembly without instructions. Include the return address, registration and a technician contact so any further information can be discussed promptly.
