Keep the accepted calibration details
Save the date, registration, service description, fuel requirements and any programming record from the original job. Keep original files if supplied and relevant test results. Those details help the team identify what was agreed and installed.
If the engine and gearbox were tuned together, retain both records. A later workshop visit may affect one controller or several. Knowing the previous relationship avoids treating the engine map in isolation.
Record what the later workshop changed
Ask for the update or repair description and any available software identification. Note when the change happened and whether the engine or gearbox behaves differently afterwards. A service invoice saying only update gives limited technical context.
Do not assume the earlier calibration is still installed, or that restoring it is automatically a straightforward repeat write. The actual current software and access route need checking.
Describe faults separately from preferences
If a warning, misfire, non-start or shift symptom appeared, include the scan and conditions. The next job may need diagnosis. A request to reinstate performance should not bypass investigation of a new fault.
If the vehicle simply feels different, explain the comparison and any fuel or hardware changes. Unknown programming history can require review before another file is applied.
Ask for the correct review scope
Contact the original calibration team with registration, old job details and the new workshop record. Any warranty or reinstatement arrangements are checked against the agreed service terms, rather than presumed from a website label.
The team can confirm the appropriate next step, current support and any required quote. Keep a clear record for future servicing and tell workshops about previous software work where relevant.
Send the information that helps.
- Original calibration date and record
- Later workshop invoice and update details
- Current ECU / TCU identification if available
- Changes in behaviour and scans
- Fuel, hardware and postcode
Questions about this enquiry
Should I assume my remap survives every software update?
No. Establish what changed and have the current software state checked.
Is restoration automatically covered in every case?
The original scope and applicable service terms must be checked. Send the job and update records.
