Confirm the code and transmission application

Save the complete transmission and vehicle scan. Include the exact code, gearbox identification and symptoms, especially whether basic settings fail or gears are unavailable. Do not apply a code description from another gearbox without confirming the application.

For P189C / 006300, Ross-Tech describes restricted function associated with insufficient pressure build-up and lists electrical supply or connection issues alongside possible mechatronic failure. That is a reason to test the system, rather than treating the code alone as proof that cloning is needed.

Investigate before replacing the assembly

The transmission technician should follow the applicable procedure and establish the relevant electrical and hydraulic findings. Share what was checked and the result. A fault remaining after an unsuccessful reset does not by itself identify which part failed.

Cloning transfers supported electronic data; it does not restore hydraulic pressure or repair a damaged pump, worn clutch or other physical fault. A correctly transferred donor still needs to be suitable and serviceable for the complete repair.

If replacement is required, check both units

Send the original and replacement labels, gearbox identity and reason for replacement before buying or posting a donor. Explain whether the candidate is a full mechatronic assembly or the electronic unit only.

The exact supported transfer and any security, coding or adaptation requirements are checked for the application. A DSG tuning listing is not evidence that every controller and replacement pairing is cloneable.

Complete the commissioning after the repair

The installer should carry out the appropriate transmission-specific refitting and commissioning, including any required basic settings once the underlying fault is corrected. The procedure and prerequisites need to match the actual unit.

Include the garage contact, registration and postcode in the enquiry. Your controller quote should state the electronic work separately from mechanical or hydraulic repairs and the final vehicle-side checks.
