Keep the complete chart

When asking about a measured result, share the entire report rather than a crop of the peak figures. Units, engine speed, labels, date and test information help establish what is being compared. State which specification and fuel were used.

A graph from another vehicle is context, not proof of your output. Different hardware, fuel, software, condition and measurement arrangements can change the comparison. The enquiry should identify both the car and the source of the result.

Read the delivery through the range

Power and torque curves give more information than their highest points. Ask where response changes and how the result fits the use of the vehicle. A daily driver, towing vehicle and hardware project may have different priorities.

Do not infer mechanical health from a large peak. Symptoms, diagnostic findings and relevant logs belong with a performance discussion. If the vehicle was not running properly, explain that before the next calibration is scoped.

Check the basis and conditions

Confirm whether the report shows wheel output, an engine estimate or another calculated figure. Keep unit and method consistent when comparing runs. Ask which vehicle settings and test conditions apply instead of choosing the larger number from mismatched reports.

A calculator can show a mathematical difference once the figures are comparable. It cannot correct a mismatched test method or establish the credibility of a result.

Turn the report into a useful request

Provide registration, engine, transmission, fuel, modifications and software history with the chart. Describe the behaviour you want to improve and whether the car has current faults. Include any relevant logs already available.

Ask what verification is appropriate and included for the proposed job. The checks and any required measurement arrangements are agreed for the actual work before booking.

Questions about this enquiry

Is one high peak enough to assess a map?

No. The delivery, method, conditions, hardware and diagnostic evidence provide the context.

Does a calculator validate a dyno result?

No. It calculates from supplied numbers and does not verify the test method or source.
