Identify the operation as well as the ECU
An enquiry should say whether you want calibration, recovery, original-software restoration or replacement-data work. Support for one operation does not automatically establish the others. Registration and exact controller identity help the team choose the appropriate route.
An ECU family name is only the beginning. Hardware and software can change current access. Tell us about earlier programming, dealer updates and any available identification rather than relying on an old model-level assumption.
Separate access from appointment location
OBD means the relevant supported work uses the diagnostic connection. Bench and specialist procedures have their own controller-handling requirements. The method is confirmed before scheduling or removal, rather than selected because a particular location is convenient.
A vehicle-side problem may still need the complete car even if the controller can be programmed separately. Removed-unit acceptance does not replace diagnosis of wiring, supplies, hardware or mechanical faults.
Provide practical location details
Send full postcode, parking or site restrictions and preferred availability. Explain whether the vehicle runs and whether a workshop appointment is possible. Suitable mobile work is arranged on quoted routes and confirmed dates.
For a work vehicle, say how much downtime is acceptable. For a protected-controller enquiry, wait for specific preparation instructions before removing or dispatching a unit. The correct route can affect the whole plan.
Confirm the quote before booking
Ask for calibration, access, agreed checks and any additional diagnostic or travel scope to be explained. Include fuel, hardware, gearbox and current faults so the starting brief is complete.
Your enquiry prepares the discussion; it does not prove protocol support or reserve a visit. The team confirms the actual method, price, arrangements and any remaining vehicle-side work before acceptance.
Send the information that helps.
- Registration, ECU identity and required operation
- Current software and update history
- Fuel, hardware, gearbox and faults
- Postcode, site access and preferred dates
- Whether the vehicle runs or unit is removed
Questions about this enquiry
Does every Stage 1 use OBD?
No. Exact controller and software determine access.
Should I remove the ECU before asking?
Contact the team first. The job may need vehicle-side diagnosis or different preparation.
