State the fuel you can use consistently
When asking about petrol tuning, name the grade you normally buy and whether that will continue. Do not choose a target built around a fuel specification you cannot regularly obtain. The agreed calibration brief and handover requirements should use the same assumption.
An octane number by itself is not a promised power gain. The engine, controller, hardware and operating conditions still matter. Ask for a vehicle-specific expectation and keep the fuel specification with the quotation.
Include the complete engine setup
Send registration, engine version, transmission and hardware changes. For an intercooler, turbo or fuel-system upgrade, include exact part specifications. A standard-hardware enquiry and a modified project can need different checks and verification.
If another tune is already installed, explain its known fuel requirement and history. Share original files and paperwork if available. Unknown previous programming should be reviewed rather than assumed to match the new brief.
Investigate a running problem before more load
Describe misfire, unexpected warning messages, noise or changed response, including whether they followed a fuel or software change. These symptoms need the appropriate diagnostic discussion. A revised performance target is not a substitute for finding their cause.
Provide codes and relevant findings without claiming a particular component is responsible unless it has been tested. The first agreed job may be investigation rather than a remap.
Keep the fuel requirement after handover
Ask which grade the accepted calibration is intended to use and what to do if your regular supply changes. Keep the instructions and service record. Contact the team with the circumstances if behaviour becomes unexpected.
The useful enquiry includes how the car is driven, its fuel, hardware, gearbox and postcode. A larger advertised figure for another version or another fuel is not a result promised for yours.
Send the information that helps.
- Registration, petrol engine and gearbox
- Fuel grade used regularly
- Installed hardware and current software
- Running symptoms and scans
- Driving goal and postcode
Questions about this enquiry
Does higher octane automatically produce a stated gain?
No. Output depends on the complete vehicle and calibration. Agree the fuel specification and a vehicle-specific expectation.
Should I mention an existing fuel-specific tune?
Yes. Include its known requirements and programming history before further work is scoped.
