Begin with the repair reason

State why the unit is being removed: no communication, water damage, non-start after ECU replacement, failed programming, gearbox pressure fault or mechatronic replacement. Include the full scan and the technician’s findings.

A module arriving without a repair story can only be assessed in isolation. The accepted work should be tied to the actual vehicle complaint and the installer’s plan.

Identify every part in the parcel

Mark units OLD / ORIGINAL and NEW / REPLACEMENT. Photograph complete labels and connector condition before packing. Confirm whether the parcel contains an ECU, TCU electronics, a complete mechatronic assembly or additional parts.

Do not post a complete fluid-containing assembly until handling is agreed. Pins, sockets and housings need protecting because transport damage can create a new fault on top of the original issue.

Separate the electronic work from refitting

Postal cloning, recovery or repair assessment does not automatically include vehicle-side coding, adaptation, leak repair, wiring repair or gearbox commissioning. Those responsibilities need naming before return.

For DSG, ZF and other mechatronic jobs, basic settings, fluid checks and final scans belong with the refitting garage. Ask for the return handover before the part comes back.

Use the postcode to plan realistic turnaround

Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle and Sheffield deliveries are usually straightforward, while rural Cumbria, Northumberland, Scotland, Highlands and islands can need different courier planning. Give the full return postcode before acceptance.

Northern Calibration can support owners and trade garages through Precision Remaps UK. Agree the scope, parts, courier route and installer contact before dispatch.
