There is more than one compatibility question

The transmission specialist needs to establish mechanical and hydraulic suitability. The electronic controller also needs the correct identity, supported data route and configuration for the vehicle. One matching description does not settle both questions.

Before buying, obtain the candidate labels and relevant identification. Ask exactly what the seller is supplying: a complete gearbox, complete mechatronic or electronics alone. A listing photograph of a housing may omit the information needed for a supported transfer.

Compare the original with the actual candidate

Send the original and donor controller labels, gearbox identification, registration and specialist diagnosis. Manufacturer numbers and generations matter; the number of gears or a DSG / ZF family name is not a complete specification.

Explain the fault prompting replacement. A pressure, slip or mechanical failure calls for a repair plan that includes the physical assembly. Cloning cannot be priced as though it will repair that cause.

Check the original-data route before committing

If the original controller is readable, the available data and required operation need confirming. If it is damaged or absent, the replacement route may involve further assessment or another supported procedure.

A tuning coverage list does not establish cloning support. Do not buy a donor solely because the vehicle appears in a remapping tool list. The transfer, accessible memories and donor condition are separate checks.

Ask the installer about commissioning

Identify any coding, basic settings, adaptation and final checks required after the replacement. These depend on the transmission and work performed. Confirm who has the appropriate equipment and will complete the procedure.

An electronic bench service cannot reproduce every condition on the vehicle. A clear handover identifies the included verification and remaining installation work. Keep the original unit and diagnostic information until the complete repair is checked.

Make the purchase and postal plan consistent

Ask the seller about the unit’s condition and the terms for your purchase, and have your installer confirm physical suitability. The controller service does not warrant a customer-supplied donor’s mechanical or electronic condition.

Once the job is accepted, confirm required parts, preparation, packaging and return arrangements. Include a direct contact able to answer technical questions, rather than sending an unexplained pair of assemblies and relying on an earlier listing link.

Questions about this enquiry

Does a matching part number guarantee the entire gearbox swap?

No. Physical suitability, electronic support and installation requirements need checking together.

Should I send a complete gearbox for controller work?

Only send the parts specifically accepted for the job. Start with labels, diagnosis and the proposed replacement details.
