Choose the route around the actual job

A removed ECU can be assessed for an accepted electronic operation, while an on-vehicle appointment can involve checks that require the complete car. These are different scopes. Posting a controller does not by itself turn a vehicle-health investigation into a bench-only job.

Explain whether you need specialist access, original-software recovery, replacement data work or an engine calibration enquiry. Tell us if the unit is already removed and why. Keep a functioning controller fitted until the required parts and access arrangements have been confirmed.

Include the evidence that cannot travel with the ECU

For tuning, share the actual vehicle specification, installed hardware, fuel, servicing and warnings. For recovery or replacement, include the scan, original condition and programming history. A controller on its own cannot demonstrate boost control, engine condition or every connected system in the vehicle.

If a local garage is involved, ask it to record identification and relevant findings before removal. Agree which checks it will perform after the unit returns. This helps prevent a quoted electronic operation being mistaken for responsibility for unrelated vehicle faults.

Coordinate access, refitting and the final specification

Some enquiries involve a specialist access operation followed by further work on the vehicle. Ask what the removed-unit job achieves and what remains: installation, coding, adaptations, diagnostics or an agreed calibration appointment. The required sequence depends on the application.

Identify the person responsible for each stage. Keep the accepted fuel and hardware brief with the job, and share any later changes before programming. A quote should make the handover clear rather than use “postal remap” as a catch-all description.

Confirm the postcode and dispatch conditions

Send the full postcode before arranging transport. Accepted UK postal support can be useful for northern England and Scotland, with Highlands and island courier arrangements confirmed individually. Transit time, workshop assessment and return availability are separate parts of the timetable.

Precision Remaps UK confirms acceptance, parts required and arrangements before dispatch. Use the postal checklist to prepare the agreed handover, and use the tuning planner for a complete vehicle brief. If the fault still needs vehicle diagnosis, ask which workshop or suitable mobile route makes sense first.

Questions about this enquiry

Can a posted ECU prove that my vehicle is ready for tuning?

No. The unit does not show every vehicle-side condition. The accepted scope and any separate checks must be agreed.

Should I remove my ECU before enquiring?

Keep it fitted unless removal is already necessary or has been agreed. Send the vehicle and controller information first.
