Describe the driving behaviour precisely
Record whether the warning appears cold, hot, during a particular shift or after restarting. Note whether gears are unavailable, the gearbox slips, a selection is delayed or the vehicle enters a restricted mode.
Give the registration, exact gearbox if known, mileage, service history and recent repairs. Tell us if the engine or TCU already has modified software. These details help decide whether the first job should be vehicle diagnosis, controller assessment or calibration review.
Preserve the full diagnostic report
A code is useful when its status, associated data and the rest of the scan are available. Ask for the complete report before clearing faults or carrying out further replacement.
The investigation may need relevant supply, sensor, pressure, fluid-condition or mechanical findings. The appropriate tests belong to the exact transmission. A generic internet procedure or a code description should not be used to condemn a controller on its own.
Choose the service around the finding
If the electronic controller has failed, an accepted TCU assessment or compatible replacement-data route may be appropriate. If the fault is hydraulic or mechanical, that repair remains separate from cloning.
Gearbox tuning is intended to change supported calibration behaviour on a suitable transmission. It is not a repair for slip, a pressure fault or worn parts. Tell us about the symptoms before asking for a higher torque limit or a different shift strategy.
Make the enquiry useful to your installer
For an immobilised vehicle at a local garage, the garage can share its findings and labels for a postal assessment. If vehicle-side diagnosis is still required, ask about a suitable workshop or postcode-quoted mobile route.
Your quote and handover should state what controller work is included and which commissioning checks remain. A clear diagnosis makes that division easier for you and the technician completing the vehicle repair.
The useful details.
- Complete scan before fault clearing
- Cold / hot and driving conditions
- Gearbox identification, mileage and service history
- Existing engine and gearbox software
- Recent replacements and technician findings
