Give an accurate starting specification
Registration, model year, engine, original output and gearbox identify the starting enquiry. Tell us whether the vehicle is standard, already tuned or has unknown software history. Include the fuel used regularly and the full list of installed parts, with exact specifications where available. A stage label is useful context, but it cannot replace those details.
For an automatic, include the actual transmission and any existing gearbox software. For a manual, describe clutch or flywheel symptoms. Suitable engine and transmission calibration can be discussed together where supported, but support for one controller does not establish support for every operation on the other.
Describe faults before requesting performance
Warnings, misfires, a new lack of boost, smoke, overheating, clutch slip or poor shifts should be declared before booking. Save the complete scan and the garage’s findings. A vehicle can need diagnosis even when the warning is intermittent or disappears after restarting; changing the map does not establish that the fault is resolved.
Ask what further evidence is needed for the actual application. Relevant checks depend on the complaint and the vehicle, rather than a universal list of readings. Share existing test results and servicing. Do not carry out improvised electrical, pressure or high-load road tests to satisfy a website enquiry.
Make servicing and recent work part of the brief
State mileage, maintenance history and recent engine, turbo, fuel-system or gearbox work. If a part was changed to address a warning, include whether the symptom is now resolved and any follow-up report. Age or mileage alone cannot describe the vehicle’s condition, and a recent service cannot certify every system for tuning.
A modified-hardware vehicle needs the installer’s commissioning findings and the current software used to run it. If the hardware list or calibration is uncertain, explain that honestly. The team can identify what needs checking before a performance scope is agreed.
Arrange the appointment around the required work
The quote should identify supported access, calibration, agreed checks and any separate diagnosis. Some applications can suit a mobile appointment; others need removal, specialist access or workshop facilities. Give the complete postcode, whether the vehicle runs safely and whether a Burton workshop visit is practical.
Use the tuning planner to collect the brief, then send it to Precision Remaps UK by WhatsApp, email or the usual online form. A technician confirms suitability, estimates, price and availability. If a fault remains, make diagnosis the first enquiry so the later tuning decision starts from a known condition.
| Vehicle situation | Useful first step |
|---|---|
| No known running faults; standard hardware | Discuss supported calibration, fuel and the driving goal. |
| Warning light, misfire or new loss of performance | Share the scan and arrange suitable diagnosis first. |
| Clutch slip or gearbox complaint | Investigate drivetrain condition before increased demand. |
| Modified hardware or unknown previous software | Identify parts, software and commissioning findings before quoting. |
Gather the relevant details.
- Registration, engine, gearbox and original output
- Known ECU / TCU software and access history
- Regular fuel and complete hardware list
- Mileage, maintenance, scan and unresolved symptoms
- Postcode, preferred route and intended driving result
