Understand the accepted handover
At completion, make sure you understand the agreed work, controller identity, fuel requirement and any application-specific instructions. Ask how checks or measured results are recorded and what remaining vehicle work has been identified. A completed programming operation and a verified performance measurement are different pieces of evidence.
Keep the quotation, invoice, contact details and relevant identification with the vehicle records. If a gearbox calibration was also agreed, retain its scope separately from the engine work. Ask about the applicable service and support terms so future enquiries start from the actual agreement.
Keep the fuel and hardware configuration consistent
Use the fuel discussed for the calibration and follow the agreed application-specific instructions. If you plan a turbo, fuelling, intake or other hardware change, contact the technician before assuming the present software remains suitable. A stage label does not describe every possible future configuration.
Continue appropriate vehicle maintenance and pay attention to new warnings or drivetrain symptoms. Tuning does not replace servicing or repair. If the vehicle behaves unsafely, arrange a suitable investigation rather than repeatedly using it under load to see whether the symptom clears.
Record later updates and controller replacements
Dealer or independent programming can change the software state. Keep the reason, date and controller identity for each later intervention. If performance or behaviour changes afterwards, send the update record and scan. Do not write an old file solely because it was once used on the same vehicle; compatibility and the current route need checking.
If an ECU or TCU is replaced, explain the existing tune and desired software outcome when requesting data work. The available original data, donor and accepted replacement operation determine what can be retained. Keep source files with their read method and origin rather than relying only on a file name.
Make a later fault enquiry easy to assess
Describe how the vehicle behaved before and after the change, conditions that reproduce the symptom, fuel, new parts and recent work. Save the full diagnostic report and original logs where available. A fault after tuning deserves investigation, but chronology alone does not identify whether the cause is calibration, hardware, a supply problem or wear.
Send Precision Remaps UK the registration, postcode, previous job details and current evidence through Northern Calibration. The team can discuss diagnosis, a supported software review or restoration and any separate calibration work. Use the diagnostic enquiry for an active fault and the tuning planner for a healthy-vehicle change of brief.
| Change | What to retain or ask |
|---|---|
| Dealer software update | Update record, current identity and any changed behaviour. |
| New turbo or supporting hardware | Exact specification and a suitability review before further load. |
| Replacement ECU or TCU | Both identities, existing tune and agreed software outcome. |
| Warning or running fault | Complete scan, conditions, timeline and relevant original logs. |
Gather the relevant details.
- Quotation and scope for engine / gearbox work
- Controller identity and available original records
- Agreed fuel, hardware and handover instructions
- Dates and details of later software or parts changes
- Complete scan and symptom history for any support enquiry
