Identify the engine, not just the badge

BMW petrol enquiries need registration, model year and the actual engine. Include factory output, fuel and gearbox. B48, B58 and earlier petrol families cover different controller and hardware generations; the badge alone is not a complete specification.

Fuel and hardware belong together

List the fuel grade you normally use and every engine modification. For standard hardware, discuss the everyday response you want. For an upgraded intercooler or turbo, include the exact parts and installer findings so the scope can be reviewed.

Plan ECU and ZF work as one brief

Include the current engine map and any gearbox software. A combined enquiry can address supported transmission behaviour alongside engine torque delivery. The transmission product’s stage numbers do not automatically match the engine stage.

Check protected access before arranging travel

Controller and software identity determine the supported method. A later vehicle or recent software update may need a different route. The team confirms access and appointment logistics before acceptance.

Keep hybrids separately identified

If the car is a plug-in hybrid, state that explicitly. Engine-only and combined-system power figures must be kept distinct, and battery state affects comparisons. Do not substitute a conventional petrol result for a hybrid vehicle.
